22.2.17 - BEAT BAND BOOGIE!

Our topic this half term is Beat Band Boogie. For our Memorable Experience we went into the hall to watch some marching bands and Trooping of the Colour whilst eating a cup of popcorn! Then we had a special visitor 'Sophie' who is part of the Army Cadet Force and she helped the children to march like soldiers with straight arms up and down the hall in lines. They then marched around the hall in their afternoon groups shouting left right left right etc. They all enjoyed their time in the hall and were very good 'marching soldiers'! Well done!! See below for photos of our 'experience!'

DIGI BLUE CAMERA WORK

One of the projects Class 4 have been working on this week was using the Digi Blue cameras to make a stop start mini movie based on something that might happen in London. The children worked in groups to discuss and think of a setting and event that could happen and then they each had a chance to take a series of photos and move the scene ready to put together to make a mini moving picture sequence. They all did really well and enjoyed watching their work played back!!

We hope you enjoy watching their work in the four clips below!

BEWARE - THE ALIENS ARE HERE!! 22.2.16

We pretended to be aliens visiting the planet EARTH. We had to think about what our hands looked like, how we moved and what are facial expression would be. We imagined we had crashed landed on Earth and we created a sequence of movements from a crash start position, to becoming aware of our surroundings, touching things around the hall and finally meeting some other aliens! We are all very creative!!

MOON ZOOM CRASH SITE MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE! 22.2.16

Something happened in Class 2 over the half term holidays! We all went to Class 2 to have a look being extremely careful where we stood and not going past the 'hazard' tape!

There was a boarded up area on the ceiling, some replaced windows, a crash site, some very bright silvery paper, sparkly rocks and stones, glittery green slime, a broken chair, wires/cables, springs, shiny fabric,  and all sorts of 'mess' in the room. We all wondered what had happened!!

We had a great talk time with partners about what we could see and what we thought might have happened.

We have come to the conclusion that an alien space ship has landed in Class 2 and that somewhere about we may have alien visitor!!

We had a great 'memorable experience' at Twycross Zoo to begin our new topic Paws, Claws and Whiskers. We hope your child had lots to talk about when they got home and slept well!

Reciting Rhymes

We have been using our memories this week to play different memory games and to recite rhymes. We have been learning to read some different rhymes and below are pictures of us practising reading a range of different rhymes. We worked with a partner and used a range of guided reading tools to support our learning. Can you remember what rhymes we have talked about this week?

smileyWELCOME TO A NEW SCHOOL YEAR!smiley

We hope your child has settled well into their Year 1 class and are getting used to their new routines! Whilst we appreciate that the Year 1 curriculum is very different and more formal than what they did in Reception, please be aware that we do try and include some practical/learning choice based activities during the day where possible!

The new reading book system is now nearing completion with the big change around and we hope to send your child with a  reading book to practise very soon! In the meantime, please support your child's reading by looking at and reading a range of books, signs, labels, newspapers, comics, cards, notes etc from home!

Thankyou to all the homework books we have had back with completed homework in them. Please continue to support your child's learning by encouraging them to complete their work each week.

Look forward to some photos of what goes on in our class very soon.

Many thanks, J. Marsden and S. Gerrard

The Trial of Goldilocks!

We have been looking at understanding and improving our reading comprehension skills of deducing, inferring and interpreting information from our texts. We have also been learning how to organise our thoughts and ideas on texts. We have done this through 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears'. We have had discussions and written letters as both parties. The bears to Goldilocks saying why they are so cross and Goldilocks to the Three Bears explaining what really happened. Then on the final day we held a Trial. Goldilocks was in the dock, the Three Bears were here looking very cross and the class, sorry, the jury were kept in order by the Judge Dudley. Lots of inference and deducing was used and in the end it was close but Goldilocks was sent down!  The reason behind the majority vote was that she didn't have permission and she didn't say sorry so they deduced it was deliberate.
