Safeguarding

Child Protection & Safeguarding

Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility - 'It could happen here'. Our practice is underpinned by 3 key principles:

  1. Safeguarding is the responsibility of all staff, governors, volunteers, visitors and parents/carers, with safeguarding being 'an important part of everyday life' in our school
  2. Our school operates a child-centred approach, with a clear understanding of the needs, wishes, views and voices of children
  3. All staff have a clear understanding regarding abuse and neglect in all forms: including how to identify, respond and report. This also includes knowledge in the process for allegations against professionals. We deal with all matters of safeguarding children swiftly and securely, following the correct procedures with the safety and wellbeing of the children in mind at all times.

We use a safeguarding software and records system called My Concern, designed by child protection professionals for educational settings that ensures all relevant staff are immediately made aware of any safeguarding concerns regarding pupils.

All members of our school community have 'Areas of Responsibility for Safeguarding' and  we have designated leads in place for:

  • Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL); 'Prevent Duty'; 'Anti Bullying', 'Online Safety'; Recruitment; Vulnerable children; Domestic Abuse; Allegations - Mrs Joanne  Baillie -  Head teacher
  • Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead; Inclusion Leader; 'Looked After Children'; Mental Health Champion - Mrs Louise Swinfield - Deputy Head teacher - Key Stage One Leader
  • Deputy DDSL - Miss Hannah Jesson - Assistant Head teacher - EYFS Leader
  • Governor for Safeguarding - Mr Shane Brown
  • Governor for Anti-Bullying; Looked After Children Governor - Mrs Liz Boyd
  • Single Central Record - Recruitment & Vetting  Checks  - Mrs Julie Knight - Business Manager

We have 40+ policies, procedures and practices in place to ensure effective safeguarding arrangements, well supported by the 'Derby & Derbyshire Safeguarding Children's Partnership' and by regular, on-going training and support at all levels.
